T17 - The teacher is boss

The teacher is boss
Indhold
This march my book Making in the classroom was published. The book is a collection of the outcomes of our research and of a lot of talks and experiments with several Dutch schools and libraries.
The book shows the status of Dutch maker education today and clearly explains what teachers and schools can do to implement makered on their own terms.
The book in short:
  • MakerEd is about fun and playful learning.
  • The teacher is boss: s/he decides on the best way to get making in the classroom.
  • Making can only take place under certain conditions: a place, enough time and trust.
  • For making you need building blocks: knowledge, materials, tools and maker-skills.
  • Technical maker skills are key: they enable making and inspire new ideas.
MakerEd starts with known and common tools and techniques. New technology is welcome after the foundations is laid.

Beskrivelse
Astrid Poot is an author, designer, educator, tech philosopher and -lover and maker. She is the co-founder and boss of Lekkersamenklooien (roughly translates to Happily messing around together), a (non-profit) foundation that promotes and enables MakerEd.
The foundation is passionately trying to heal today’s anxious society with maker-books, comics, lesson plans and lessons, tinkering kits, blogs and more. We inspire households, schools, museums and libraries into making.
